Curtains up for The Performance Theatre 2014June 13, 2014
Leaders are set to gather in Oslo today at City Hall for The Performance Theatre 2014, which will see them discussing the leadership required to solve global challenges.
During the first day of the two-day theatre, Norway’s prime minister, Erna Solberg, will deliver a keynote address in which she will state that global challenges such as climate change and poverty, and regional challenges such as unemployment in Europe, can only be solved by education.
Solberg will be addressing a handpicked gathering of global business leaders, politicians, academics and authors, social innovators, and sportspeople and artists, who are coming together at this year’s Performance Theatre to debate ‘Leadership with a human purpose’. In addition to the Prime Minister, participants include: Malala Yousafzai, the education activist; His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon of Norway; Lord Browne of Madingley and Rick Haythornthwaite, chairman of the board of directors, MasterCard and Centrica.
The big idea behind this year’s theme, ‘Leadership with a human purpose’, is that today’s grand challenges – such as dwindling resources, persistent inequality and a volatile climate – require a new breed of leader who is not driven merely by electoral cycles or short-term profit, but by a desire to contribute to the betterment of humanity.
