Past Theatres

Due to the on-going Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, we adapted The Theatre’s format and hosted three virtual engagements with the theme Re/Assemble.

TPT 2019 tackled the theme of ‘Higher Resolutions: Leadership for a Changing Social Contract’ in Seattle, a city with a deep history of protest and progress.

In an immersive 36-hour experience split across Potsdam and Berlin, we explored how leaders can break ranks with the status quo – and how to build movements that sustain change over time – via our, theme: ‘Unfinished Revolutions’.

After a year characterised by a mounting sense of estrangement at the global, national and individual levels, participants tackled the theme of “Invisible Realities” through a two-day programme that explored ways of listening and engaging that can bridge perception gaps.

Our ambition for The Performance Theatre this year was to draw on the Theatre’s unique blend of drama, creating thinking, reflection and action to consider the current state of the world and the likely futures that it represents, imagine optimistic new possibilities, and then see how our views of the present may have changed.

Our ambition for The Performance Theatre in 2015, held in Lisbon, was to draw on Portugal’s rich explorer history and build insight into the new leadership landscape. What does it look like? What can we learn from those at the front line of change? How can 21st century leadership be taught and learned?

The Performance Theatre 2014 took place in Oslo on 13-14 June, featuring keynote addresses from education activist Malala Yousafzai, Norwegian prime minister Erna Solberg and Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon.

Leaders and thinkers from business, politics, religion, and the arts and sciences met in Istanbul for The Performance Theatre 2013, on 14-15 June.

The theme for London 2012 was 'New Voices, New Growth'. The starting point was that the solution to interconnected global problems, such as resource scarcity, poverty and social instability, is not to reject growth but to rethink it.

On 16-17 June 2011, we met in Beijing. Taking the country's recently approved 12th five-year plan as our starting point, our theme was 'The Rebirth of Growth – China’s Role' and we explored how China can help steer us through challenges such as climate change to population growth.
